The Government of Germany has implemented security plans to reinforce the country's defenses against "hybrid attacks" from Russia after the recent incident with drones at Leipzig airport, which Berlin has blamed on Moscow, with the subsequent denial of the Eurasian country, which has demanded that the German authorities present evidence to support these claims.
"Russia's hybrid attacks, which include drones loaded with explosives aimed at airports, agents operating in our cities, cyber attacks on our networks and sabotage against our infrastructure, are an everyday reality," said German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, as reported by the newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
Thus, he has highlighted that, although they believe that these attacks will increase, the country will be able to defend itself. To this end, its portfolio has prepared specific plans to improve protection against drones and cyber attacks, as reported by the aforementioned media.
In this way, the airspace over the main transport hubs, airports, train stations and the government district of Berlin would be fully protected against drones through "new rapid deployment units", according to the German news agency DPA.
In addition, companies that manage critical infrastructure, such as water supply, electricity and defense contractors, will also have legal authorization to actively defend themselves against drones, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
Along these lines, a national protection shield will be created, called 'Cyberdome', which will consist of a dense network of digital sensors designed to detect and intercept attempted cyber attacks, given the hundreds of hacks against German companies in recent months.
Moscow accuses Berlin of starting a "real war"
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today accused Germany of starting a "real war" against Russia, due to Berlin's reaction to Moscow's alleged involvement in the incident with a drone at Leipzig airport.
"Leipzig, airport (...) They found a drone there. They said it's Russian and no one bothered to investigate further. Broadly speaking, this is essentially the beginning of a real war," Lavrov said, speaking on Russian television.
He denounced that the German authorities have decided to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin, after which the minister announced the closure of all branches of the Goethe Institute in this country.
"I remember that before the beginning of the Second World War, or rather the Great Patriotic War, the Germans closed the diplomatic legations," he said. In addition, he warned that Germany is "putting into practice" the plans of its chancellor, Friedrij Merz, to turn his country, "again, into the leading military power in Europe."
"Well, in essence, he is coming to declare war on us. The lessons of history have not been learned at all. It turns out that these metastases of Nazism are beginning to emerge. This is a dangerous phenomenon. It seems to me that the Russian leaders will draw their own conclusions," he said.
The Kremlin also assured on Friday that "the accusations against Russia are completely baseless. We categorically reject these accusations, we consider them completely empty and without convincing arguments."
He recalled that Berlin did not behave in the same way when those responsible for the explosion in the Nord Stream gas pipeline - supposedly the Ukrainians - were caught practically in the act. "Therefore, of course, in this situation, we find his statements more than unconvincing," said Dmitri Peskov, presidential spokesman.
