Woman dies after bull attack during rodeo party in Barbosa Ferraz

Juraci was a resident of Maringá and had traveled the 104 kilometers between the cities to visit her friends. She was staying at one of their houses.

The woman was attacked by the animal while she was on the sidewalk, on Friday night (4). Despite the arrival of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), she did not survive her injuries and died. Her body was sent to the Campo Mourão Scientific Police.

According to the Military Police (PM-PR), even after the attack, "the animal remained loose through the city streets, demonstrating extreme aggression." Some people tried to use lassoes, but the bull was not controlled and was shot dead by police officers.

The police did not release details of how the bull escaped. The animal's owner, a 37-year-old man, was identified and taken to the Civil Police station.

Through a statement published on social media, Barbosa Ferraz City Hall informed that the rodeo events had been suspended. The party, which runs until this Sunday (6), has not been cancelled. Read the statement in full:

"The municipality of Barbosa Ferraz, through its mayor Carlos Rosa Alves, informs the population of the immediate suspension of the rodeo events (mounts) in the current program, as a result of the tragic accident that occurred on this date, which fatally killed a woman, in an episode involving the troop's bull.

We express deep regret and solidarity with the victim's family, friends and the entire Barbosa community. At this time of mourning, the Municipal Administration is at your disposal and will provide whatever support you need.

I order the immediate establishment of an administrative procedure to rigorously investigate the facts. All appropriate measures will be taken, in conjunction with the competent authorities, to identify and hold responsible those who caused or contributed to the tragedy. There will be no omission.

From an administrative aspect, TOGETHER and with the support of leaders, the other festivities and activities in the program — which involve partner entities, local businesses, artists, service providers and the population — will be maintained, with immediate reinforcement of security and prevention measures. The commitments already made and the other organizational developments of the event need to be honored, without this meaning any relativization of the seriousness of what happened, and especially without losing respect and the feeling of solidarity with the situation."
