Ana Vázquez, expelled from Congress after showing a pepper spray

The PP deputy Ana Vázquez has been visibly angry in the halls of Congress after being expelled from the chamber this Wednesday by President Francina Armengol after the popular woman showed a pepper spray during the Government control session to dramatize the situation of insecurity experienced by women and girls in Ceuta.

"This is not a weapon, it only has 30 milliliters and it is empty," Vázquez explained, visibly affected, to the media in the corridors of the Lower House while showing the pepper spray for which she was expelled. The PP deputy has wondered if what Armengol means is that "all the women and all the children in schools carry weapons in Ceuta."

Vázquez has assured that what the president of the chamber intends is to "put a gag" on the main opposition party while denouncing the situation that the autonomous city is experiencing almost two months after the massive entry.

Armengol has called the popular deputy to order, arguing that weapons cannot be introduced or displayed in Congress, citing article 101 of the Congressional Regulations. This section regulates the temporary suspension of a deputy for, among other cases, carrying a weapon within the parliamentary premises.

The popular ones have recalled that in the previous legislature, ERC deputy Gabriel Rufián placed three bullets in the speakers' gallery during the 2022 State of the Nation debate to criticize police action on the Melilla border; and yet there was no reaction from the Presidency similar to today's. The truth is that at that time it was Meritxell Batet who presided over the Lower House and not Francina Armengol. The Presidency claims that it is not the same situation since "bullets need a gun to be fired."
