An indictment was prepared against HKP members regarding anti-NATO actions in Ankara

As part of the 36th NATO Summit held in Ankara on July 7-8, martial law measures were taken in the city and a 13-day ban on demonstrations was declared. However, left-socialist parties and institutions organized anti-NATO demonstrations despite the ban on demonstrations at that time.

In this context, TKP and HKP separately on July 5; TİP, EMEP, EHP, Devrim Party, Community Centers and Kızılbayrak carried out a coordinated action in Kurtuluş and Dikmen on July 7. These protests were harshly suppressed by law enforcement forces and hundreds of citizens were detained.

230 CITIZENS WERE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Within the scope of these actions, 230 citizens were detained. The citizens in question were transferred to the courthouse after being kept in custody for 4 days, coinciding with the completion of the NATO Leaders Summit. The citizens in question were released without any criminal proceedings after the court proceedings.

HKP'S INDICTMENTS ARE READY

The indictments against the citizens in question have also begun to be completed. Thus, first of all, it was learned that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had prepared an indictment against 19 citizens, including lawyers, within the scope of the action organized by the HKP in front of the First Parliament on July 5, for "participating unarmed in unlawful meetings and marches and not dispersing spontaneously despite the warning", and against 4 members for "resisting to prevent them from doing their duty".

"A CALL FOR AN UNAUTHORIZED MEETING HAS BEEN MADE"

In the indictment; It was claimed that, despite the ban on demonstrations in open areas imposed by the Ankara Governorship within the scope of the security measures taken before the NATO Summit, "a call for an unauthorized assembly was made" through the posts made on the HKP's official social media accounts. Citizens were accused of committing the crime of "participating in unlawful meetings and marches unarmed and not spontaneously dispersing despite the warning" on the grounds that they did not comply with the police's "disperse" warning and "the reasonable time given" regarding the protest carried out by the citizens with their party flags, and some party members were accused of committing the crime of "resisting to prevent them from doing their duty" on the grounds that they forced the police barricade.

THEY WERE ASKED TO PUNISH

In the indictment; It was noted that 19 citizens gave similar defenses; "Although it was understood that they declared that they exercised their democratic rights, it was understood from the video recordings, law enforcement reports and the entire file that the suspects committed the crimes charged against them, so their defenses were not taken into consideration," the indictment said, demanding that the party members be punished for the relevant crimes. 19 HKP citizens are expected to appear before the judge in the coming days after the indictment is accepted.
