Criminal complaint about 'child beauty contest' in Antalya

The news of a 'beauty contest' in Antalya, in which children between the ages of 4 and 13 will participate, attracted great reaction.

The Ministry of Family and Social Services also took action and announced that a criminal complaint would be filed, saying, "It is unacceptable for children to be competed based on their physical appearance, to put them into aesthetic molds that are not appropriate for their age and development, and to evaluate adults with beauty criteria."

HE TOOK ACTION BY SAYING 'IT IS AGAINST CHILDREN'S RIGHTS'

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that a statement was made in response to the news in some media and digital media that a beauty contest called "Little Miss and Little Mister United World" would be held in Antalya with the participation of children in the 4-13 age group, and the following was noted:

"As the Ministry of Family and Social Services, we are filing a criminal complaint against the organization in question. It is unacceptable for children to be competed based on their physical appearance, to be placed in aesthetic molds that are not appropriate for their age and development, and to be evaluated by adults' beauty criteria. Such organizations, which turn children into commercial elements, are incompatible with the principles of children's rights and the best interest of the child.

It is our fundamental responsibility to protect the physical, mental and psychosocial development of our children. No commercial activity, promotion or organization is more valuable than the rights and well-being of our children. Necessary investigations have been initiated by the relevant units of our Ministry. "In order to protect our children, all necessary legal and administrative steps will be taken with determination within the framework of our duties and powers, and the process will be followed meticulously."
