Armand Duplantis to the EC final in pole vaulting

During the Friday morning, the EC's biggest star stepped into the proceedings in Birmingham, it was time for Armand "Mondo" Duplantis in a pole qualifier.

And just as expected, he made short work of the process as he booked his place in Sunday's European Championship final.

The Swede stepped in at a height of 5.60 and managed quite easily. That would also prove to be enough. The top twelve, or those who got over the 5.80 qualifying mark, got a place.

In "Mondo's" case, 20 centimeters below that was enough.

- I liked it. It felt good in the body. I can't complain. I was a bit "tight" a few weeks ago. But now... I've been working really hard and it's been very stressful. There was a lot of work I needed to do with my body to get ready for the EC. And it really feels like I'm ready for the final. Now it's just time to show, he says.

"Too bad today"

For the competition's second Swede, William Asker, however, there will be no final. Asker managed 5.45, but not 5.60.

- I was too bad today. There are no excuses. That's the way it is, he says.

The pole final starts at 19.30 on Sunday, and is broadcast on SVT.
