Release of bodies of accident victims
The bodies of the six victims of the accident between a bus and a trailer on BR-116 were released from the Pedra Azul Legal Medical Institute. According to the Civil Police, four bodies were taken to Bahia, one to Alagoas and another to São Paulo.
According to the Federal Highway Police, the vehicle was traveling from São Paulo to Senhor do Bonfim (BA). The accident happened at the interchange that connects BRs-251 and 116.
"The bus was traveling on BR-251 and instead of stopping, it continued and collided crosswise with the truck, which was traveling towards Cachoeira do Pajeú towards Itaobim. After the first collision, both vehicles overturned", said PRF Victor Júnior.
Couple dies in accident
A couple died after the car they were in left the road and fell in an area on the banks of the Cangalha River, at MGC-135, in Corinto. The accident happened at km 558 of the highway.
According to the Military Police, the vehicle was traveling in the Augusto de Lima/Corinto direction when it left the road and hit the Cangalha River channel. The car then hit its upper part against an embankment on the banks of the river.
Court orders Santa Casa to pay compensation
The Minas Gerais Court ordered Santa Casa de Montes Claros to pay compensation of R$100,000 for moral damages and a lifetime pension to the family of a premature newborn who developed permanent bilateral blindness due to “failure to provide care”. The decision, released this week, is from the 13th Civil Chamber of the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG).
The child was born prematurely and remained hospitalized during the neonatal period.
“According to the expert report, although the care adopted to maintain the life of the newborn was adequate, there was a failure specifically in the absence of a request for retinal mapping,” said the TJMG.
Young man with rare type of leukemia asks for help
A young man from Montes Claros, in the North of Minas Gerais, seeks help to obtain a medicine needed to treat a rare type of leukemia. Ítalo Peixoto, who discovered the disease in February this year, needs an imported medicine that costs around R$800,000.
Ítalo was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a rare type of blood cancer.
"[At the time], I searched on Google and it always said it was dengue, I didn't say it was cancer. In my head, I never thought I would go through that. I panicked, I was distressed", he recalls what it was like when he discovered the disease.
Storm warning
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued, this Thursday (24), a warning of potential danger for storms in Montes Claros and other cities in the North of Minas.
According to Inmet, the warning comes into force at 6pm this Thursday (24th) and continues until 9am on Friday (25th). The forecast was:
Rain between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour or up to 50 millimeters per day;
Intense winds, with speeds between 40 km/h and 60 km/h;
Possibility of hail;
Low risk of electricity cuts, damage to crops, falling tree branches and flooding.
