Murder and suicide in Florence: ex-partner kills Lorena Isceri and jumps into the void

No prior complaint or complaint. What happened on Thursday, September 3 on the outskirts of Florence has the appearance of a tragedy born of planned violence. At least that is what, according to the first stages of the investigation, the agents of the homicide brigade in charge of clarifying this new case of murder and suicide have determined.

The victim is Lorena Isceri, 46, a native of southern Italy, who worked in the marketing department of a veterinary company. Her murderer is her ex-partner: Federico Vella, a 36-year-old Florentine and manager of a car rental company who, after killing her, took his own life. It was a few minutes after 2:30 p.m. when the car reached a viaduct located on one of the main highways that cross the country, in a stretch of mountain north of Florence, which then remained closed for hours.

The police reconstruct the facts: the couple had broken up after several arguments, a decision that he did not accept. There was nothing to predict what happened around lunchtime, when the man stood in the community garage where she usually parked, in a residential neighborhood of the city. As soon as Lorena parked her SUV, Federico appeared by surprise. He attacked her, left her semi-conscious and tied her legs and wrists with electrician's zip ties. He then locked it in the trunk along with his backpack.

After the initial impact, the woman regained consciousness and tried to get away. Feeling around, he found his backpack and took out his cell phone. He tried to contact his mother and a friend without success, until he managed to raise the alarm at 112. The emergency service room immediately understood the extreme seriousness of the situation: the call lasted about 20 minutes, during which the victim provided key information such as the model of his car, the license plate and the identity of the aggressor. Thanks to the geolocation of the telephone signal and traffic cameras, the police verified that the SUV was fleeing at full speed along the highway and deployed a large device to intercept it.

They were moments of maximum anguish. A patrol located the vehicle stopped on the shoulder of an elevated bridge. Moments before, Vella had opened the trunk: "What are you doing?" he snapped at the woman when he saw her with the phone, a phrase that was recorded live on the emergency switchboard. At that moment, he threw Lorena still alive into the void from more than 40 meters high. Just then the agents arrived with their body cameras on: "What have you done?" they yelled at him. "He deceived me, he treated me badly, he attacked me," stammered the aggressor before throwing himself into the void.
