Russia's attack on the Polish company Cersanit

Information about the attack on the Polish Cersanit plant in Zviahl, Ukraine, was confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The scale of destruction is enormous. Fortunately, as the company's authorities emphasized, all employees were evacuated and no one was injured.

The attack caused severe damage to the plant, including key components of the ceramic tile production cycle. In its current state, restoring and continuing production is impossible. A detailed assessment of the extent of the damage and associated losses is ongoing. Based on the preliminary assessment, Cersanit assumes that restoring the plant's production capacity will take at least six months - inform the Cersanit authorities.

After the Russian drones hit, a fire broke out at the enterprise and was extinguished by firefighters.

Why does Cersanit produce tiles in Ukraine?

The Cersanit Invest plant is located in Czyżówka in the Zwiahla region. It is one of the largest producers of tiles and ceramics in Ukraine. According to data from the investment passport of the Zhytomyr Oblast, its production capacity is up to 12 million square meters of tiles and approximately 2 million pieces of ceramic products per year. Approximately EUR 140 million was invested in the plant, and the company declared approximately 1,200 jobs.

Ukraine has significant resources of kaolin and clays used in the production of ceramics. Ukraine also has lower costs of energy, labor and ongoing factory maintenance. They are still significantly lower than in the European Union countries. This allows us to maintain very competitive prices for final products while maintaining a high margin. Ukraine is also an important market for the ceramics industry.

The factory location in the Zhytomyr Oblast was also strategically chosen as a logistics hub. From there, the company can efficiently distribute goods not only throughout Ukraine, but also export products to other countries in Eastern Europe or Central Asia.
