Trump is open to Chinese car factories in the US, but denies rumors about imports

If China wanted to come in and set up a factory to make their cars here, I wouldn't mind, Trump said in an interview with Fox News that aired on Friday.

At the same time, Trump denied the rumors repeated by Democrats that he intended to introduce Chinese cars to the American market as part of a broader agreement with China. The president said it was a "completely made up rumor" and he hadn't even heard anything about it.

Politicians - especially from Michigan, where the automotive industry is located - warn that the entry of Chinese cars into the market would destroy domestic companies. Trump agreed with this assessment, adding that, among others, they suffer because of this. German companies such as Mercedes.

Currently, cars from China are not sold in the United States. However, Mexico has allowed them - Chinese car factories will also be built in the country - and Canada made a similar move this year in the face of a dispute with the United States.
