Fire at Coupang’s logistics center in Incheon… No casualties

At around 5:28 p.m. on the 19th, a fire broke out in the logistics center building occupied by Coupang in Wonchang-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon.

There were no casualties from the fire, and fire authorities deployed 81 firefighters and 33 pieces of equipment to evacuate about 950 people, including employees, and completed a search of the entire floor.

Additionally, about 2,050 people evacuated on their own.

When the fire authorities arrived at the scene after receiving a 119 call that “there was a fire on the first basement floor,” the fire had been extinguished on its own and only smoke was coming out of the switchboard in the machine room on the first basement floor.

Firefighting authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire, believing that it is possible that the fire first started in the 'booth duct', a wiring system that supplies large amounts of power.

A total of six companies are occupying this building, which is a large logistics warehouse, and most of it has been leased by Coupang and is being used as a logistics center.

A fire department official said, "After checking each floor, there were no additional signs of fire."

Coupang Fulfillment Service issued a statement on this day, saying, "The first basement floor where the smoke occurred is not a space occupied or managed by Coupang, but a space managed by the landlord. Immediately after the smoke occurred, all employees of the tenant company, including Coupang, evacuated safely."

Previously, on the 18th of last month, a large fire broke out at another Incheon Coupang logistics center near this center and was extinguished in 109 hours.
