North Korea launched a hypersonic ballistic missile

MOSCOW, October 4 - RIA Novosti. The DPRK on Saturday launched a medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile that hit a target at a distance of 1,000 kilometers, the North Korean Central Telegraph Agency (KCNA) reports.

Earlier, KCNA reported that the DPRK conducted exercises to launch medium-range strategic missiles towards the Sea of ​​Japan.

“The exercises were carried out as part of efforts to prepare military personnel of the missile forces serving the hypersonic strategic weapons system to handle equipment... The missile used in the exercises was launched in a north-easterly direction and hit a target at a distance of 1,000 kilometers from (the coast - ed.) in the Sea of ​​Japan,” the agency reports.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who attended the exercises, highly praised the command staff and soldiers of the missile unit who participated in the exercises, the agency said in a statement. He stressed that North Korea needs to "continue responsible efforts" to "constantly make the enemy aware of the reliability and lethality" of the country's strategic offensive capabilities as part of deterrence efforts.

Kim Jong-un also reaffirmed the DPRK's commitment to the need to protect national security and stability in the future.
