Iran receives the American response through the Qatari mediator, and Trump denies making concessions

(CNN) - The Iranian state-linked Fars News Agency quoted the government spokeswoman, Fatima Mohajerani, as saying that the Iranian Foreign Minister received the American response to the Qatari mediator’s proposal.

No other details were revealed. CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with Qatari mediators in New York last week, then met with them again on Monday, before returning to his country.

Araqchi rejected allegations by "foreign media" that Iran had shown flexibility towards the United States regarding its nuclear program, which is the core of the dispute.

"I can say categorically that there has been no change at all in Iran's positions," Araqchi said before leaving New York.

He added: “Our conditions for reopening the Strait are clear, as is our position on other issues. At the present time, the only issue is the Strait of Hormuz, as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is also subject to meeting our conditions that we informed the other party.”

Araqchi said on Monday that the Qataris “had some ideas, and we had a discussion about presenting them again to the American side.”

He added: "In light of the proposal presented by Iran, (communications) took a more serious nature."

A US official told CNN on Monday that President Donald Trump is ready to ease sanctions on Iran and release its frozen funds as part of a final agreement, but on the condition that Tehran makes “tangible progress” on the nuclear file, at a time when mediators are seeking to bring the two countries back to the negotiating table.

Trump later denied making any concessions.
