Silvi, alleged assault on the deputy mayor: councilor Lella resigns

An episode of violence apparently involved the deputy mayor Luciana Di Marco and the councilor for urban planning Gianpaolo Lella yesterday evening in Silvi, at the end of a majority meeting: according to what was reported by the media, the confrontation degenerated into a physical attack against the deputy mayor, who subsequently sought medical treatment. This morning Lella formally communicated her resignation as councilor to the mayor: the communication was acquired by the Municipality's protocol office.

The mayor Andrea Scordella, the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Province of Teramo and several regional political representatives intervened on the matter. The mayor defined what happened as "a shameful episode", expressing solidarity with the deputy mayor and underlining that "no behavior that damages a person's dignity can be justifiable".

Scordella also spoke of a "disconnection" in relations within the council, hypothesizing possible interference from the provincial and regional party bodies. The mayor did not rule out individual measures against the administrators nor a possible elimination of the council, announcing meetings with the local party leaders and with the elected representatives of the coalition to verify the possibility of continuing the administrative experience.

The Equal Opportunities Commission of the Province of Teramo expressed "deep dismay", specifying that, if the reported facts were confirmed, it would be a particularly serious episode. "Violence cannot have citizenship in institutions", states the Commission, asking for full clarity on the matter.

Condemnation also came from the regional councilor of Fratelli d'Italia Marilena Rossi, who spoke of an "unacceptable fact from every point of view", and from the regional councilors of the Pact for Abruzzo, according to whom the episode cannot be considered a simple internal affair of the majority.
