Tokayev spoke out against the oppression of languages and interethnic strife

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has strongly spoken out against the oppression of certain languages, and also condemned discrimination on linguistic or ethnic grounds. Tengrinews.kz reports this.

He recalled that discrimination on linguistic, ethnic, religious or other grounds is prohibited by the Constitution of Kazakhstan. At the same time, the president accused professional provocateurs of inciting “entire fires” of interethnic hatred on social networks and in real conditions.

“Language is “God’s providence”; to fight against one language or another means to try to fight against the Almighty and everything that is sent down by him. It is difficult to imagine greater stupidity. Therefore, language, any of them, must become a determining factor of unity and progress,” Tokayev said.
