Former Jeonbuk Governor Kim Kwan-young sent to prosecution on charges of distributing driver's fees

Former Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Kwan-young, who had been under investigation for allegedly distributing driver's fees to young people attending a dinner party, was handed over to the prosecution.

The Jeonbuk Police Agency's Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 17th that it had sent former Governor Kim without detention on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.

Former Governor Kim has been under police investigation after being accused of providing 1.08 million won to about 20 people, including attendees, at a restaurant in Jeonju on the evening of November 30 last year.

Regarding the suspicion of CCTV transactions inside the restaurant, which also arose, two officials, including a former public official, were sent, but former Governor Kim decided not to send the case, believing that collusion was not recognized.

The police said they are still discussing with the prosecution regarding former Governor Kim's charges of spreading false information.

Former Governor Kim appeared on Jeonbuk CBS Radio in May and was asked by the host, "Did you have a rapport with President Lee Jae-myung when you announced your candidacy as an independent candidate?" to which he replied, "I have told you about the inevitability of running as an independent candidate."

However, the Democratic Party of Korea, which expelled former Governor Kim for distributing proxy fees, dismissed the accusation, saying, "As a result of investigating the facts through the Blue House, we received confirmation that it was not true at all." Afterwards, former Governor Kim was accused of publishing false facts under the Public Official Election Act.

Former Governor Kim was expelled from the Democratic Party after the cash distribution controversy arose, and ran as an independent in the June 3 local elections, but was defeated.
