Statement from Minister Çiftçi on Strict Inspection Against Motor Couriers and Speed Violations

Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi stated that they have initiated a strict inspection process against unregistered motorcycle couriers and speed violations, within the scope of efforts to prevent motorcycle accidents and reduce casualties. In his statement, Çiftçi gave information about the increase in motorcycle use and the work carried out to prevent accidents.

Stating that they analyzed the driver faults in fatal motorcycle accidents, Çiftçi noted that speed violation comes first in accidents with 57 percent, followed by failure to comply with lane monitoring and changing rules with 15 percent. Çiftçi said, "We have initiated a strict inspection process against the estimated 500 thousand to 1 million unregistered motorcycle couriers and speed violations we detected in the sector." he said.

Stating that they have closely examined traffic data since the day they took office, Çiftçi pointed out that the number of motor vehicles increased by 39 percent and the number of motorcycles increased by 103 percent in the 2020-2025 period.

Minister Çiftçi continued: "We launched our emergency response strategy as 1 in every 2 accidents in traffic is a motorcycle accident and 28 percent of deaths occur in this area. While 1 in every 5 vehicles in traffic is a motorcycle, this rate is expected to reach 1 in every 3 vehicles in 2030. In this direction, we are already making security and infrastructure planning for 2030."

THE ACTION PLAN IS BEING EXECUTED WITH THE COOPERATION OF 26 STAKEHOLDER INSTITUTIONS

Stating that they launched the "2026-2027 Motorcycle Inspections Action Plan" with the cooperation of 26 stakeholder institutions in order to prevent accidents and loss of life, Çiftçi noted that the plan was built on 4 main goals: campaign, inspection, training and legislation.

Çiftçi said that they closely followed 34 performance indicators within the scope of the plan and quickly implemented the necessary legal regulations. Emphasizing that they carry out effective, continuous and intensive inspections for the safety of drivers, Çiftçi said, "We will continue to work determinedly for a safe traffic, so that our nation can rest easy." he said. Çiftçi thanked the security personnel and stakeholder institutions working in the field and underlined that the work will continue uninterruptedly.
