Commemoration of Şerif Muhiddin Targan and Archive Sharing by Minister Ersoy

In his post on his social media account, Minister Ersoy said, "I commemorate the great master of our music, oud and cello virtuoso, composer Şerif Muhiddin Targan, with mercy and respect on the anniversary of his death. Targan, one of the grandchildren of the Prophet and a close friend of our national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, has gained an exceptional place in our musical history with his performance and compositions." he said.

Ersoy stated that they opened the collection of 2,761 works, donated to the Suleymaniye Manuscript Library by his wife Safiye Ayla upon his will, to free access through the world's largest manuscript portal "yek.gov.tr", through the Presidency of the Turkish Manuscripts Association, and said:

"The most important part of this precious heritage consists of 236 handwritten note books, which contain the notes of 4 thousand 249 musical works, including duplicates. In the Şerif Muhiddin Targan Exhibition, which we opened in our Beyazıt Manuscript Library, we bring together with our visitors his handwritten music notebooks, lyrics magazines, personal belongings, renovated instruments and concert clothes. We will keep the great master alive with the unique legacy he left to our music. "Once again, I remember it with mercy and thank everyone who contributed to the preservation of the collection and its transfer to future generations."
