Minister Uraloğlu: Türkiye's total tunnel length reached 881 kilometers

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated the 2026 vehicle passage data of Türkiye's longest highway tunnels. Stating that they increased the road transportation standard by overcoming Türkiye's mountainous and difficult geography with tunnels, Minister Uraloğlu said, "We increased the number of tunnels from 83 to 548 at the end of 2002. In the same period, we increased our total tunnel length from 50 kilometers to 881 kilometers. Thus, we increased the number of tunnels to approximately 6.6 times and our total tunnel length to approximately 17.6 times. In this process, the length of 831 kilometers added to our tunnel network is between Kilis and Kilis." "It corresponds to the highway distance between Afyonkarahisar." he said.

SAVINGS OF 3.3 BILLION LIRAS ANNUALLY WITH THE 5 LONGEST TUNNELS

Providing information about Türkiye's longest highway tunnels, Uraloğlu stated that the 5 longest tunnels are Zigana, Ovit, Eğribel, Ilgaz 15 July Istiklal and Cankurtaran tunnels. Uraloğlu said, "The total length of our 5 longest tunnels reaches 45.4 kilometers. We save 3.3 billion lira in fuel and time annually with these giant tunnels." he said.
