Corn harvest started in Batman, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Necdet Tuncer attended

Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Necdet Tuncer also attended the harvest in Erköklü District.

Chatting with farmers and combine harvester operators, Tuncer told the AA correspondent that the corn harvest has started in the city.

Stating that there is 1 million decares of agricultural land in Batman and 60 thousand decares of which are planted with corn, Tuncer said that the harvest will continue until the end of October.

Tuncer stated that they expect a corn harvest of approximately 90 thousand tons on an area of ​​60 thousand decares and said, "Our yield per decare is approximately 1.5 tons. This is a figure above the country and world average. It will be a harvest period that we hope our farmers will be happy about in this sense." he said.

Explaining that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has implemented planned production practice, Tuncer noted that corn is also among the planned production plants.

Tuncer said:

"Our province is not among the provinces with water constraints. Therefore, grain corn is among the products produced within the scope of planned production among the products produced in our province. We need to carry out planned production with an alternation practice. We should not plant the same plant for 3 years in a row. We need to change our product every 3 years for the health of the soil, increase in productivity and richness of organic matter in the soil. We need to rest the soil with different products other than corn."

Stating that they have informed the farmers in the city about planned production, Tuncer said, "However, as we have seen in the follow-ups we have made through the system, our farmers do not yet apply rotation in an area of ​​​​approximately 16 thousand decares. Therefore, it is of great importance that our farmers plant in accordance with this rotation program in order not to be deprived of planned production support." he said.

Ramazan Akın, a farmer in Erköklü District, said that they planted corn on an area of ​​1200 decares.

Stating that they have started the harvest season, Akın said, "The combine harvesters have entered the field. Our harvest has started. We are expecting a fruitful season." he said.
