Bayern Munich defeated Bodø/Glimt 5-0 in the Champions League opener

FC Bayern Munich scored a clear home win at the start of the Champions League season. Coach Vincent Kompany's team prevailed 5-0 (0-0) against the Norwegian outsiders FK Bodø/Glimt after an uneventful first half. The opening goal was scored by Jamal Musiala (47th minute), who was allowed to play for the first time this season. Shortly afterwards, Harry Kane scored with a header (61'), Alphonso Davies (77') and Michael Olise (83'/90'+2) increased the score.

After the previous season in the premier class, Bayern were warned: Bodø/Glimt might be one of the smaller teams in the competition, but the team from the Arctic Circle could already pose a threat to numerous top teams last season. At that time, Bodø/Glimt defeated Atlético Madrid and Manchester City in the league phase and prevailed against Inter Milan in the first knockout round.

However, the underdog owed its greatest moments to its own strength at home. In the Allianz Arena, Munich took control of the game right from the start. However, the guests' well-organized defense was unable to get through for a long time. Luis Díaz's first header chance from a cross from Joshua Kimmich pushed Nikita Haikan's goal (5') more badly than right; teammate Musiala had irritated the Colombian.

The Norwegians almost never counterattacked, as playmaker and ex-Frankfurt player Jens Petter Hauge was not fit for the starting eleven in time. But without any real Bayern chances, the game still went according to plan for Bodø. A long-range shot from Kimmich only hit the post (35th), and Haikin was in the way of Musiala's centrally placed attempt from 15 meters (40th). The visitors' goalkeeper also parried Kimmich's next shot just in front of the line (44').

Big improvement after the break

Bad luck for Bodø: Haikin was injured in the action. Substitute Julian Faye Lund came into the game at half-time - and got off to a very bad start. On the half-right side of the penalty area, Kane brought the ball to Musiala, who volleyed the ball into the far corner (47'). It was the perfect starting eleven comeback for Musiala: the national player was rested at the start of the season after several absences due to sudden absences on the football pitch had the public concerned. Musiala was already used as a substitute in the 0-0 draw against Schalke 04.

Musiala's goal served as the proverbial can opener. Musiala was still on the pitch when Harry Kane made it 2-0 with a header (61'), and Kompany took his offensive star off the field after 65 minutes. After Bodø's last effort, when Andreas Helmersen stole the ball from Kimmich and just missed lifting the ball from the halfway line over Manuel Neuer into the Bayern goal (67th), everything went to the Norwegian goal.

Davies scored with a powerful dropkick after a corner (77'), before Olise once again demonstrated his superior shooting technique (83'). After a red card against Odin Björtuft, who used the emergency brake against Olise (87th), Bayern ended the game with the advantage - and with the fifth goal, because Olise first won the ball high and then scored again with a lot of feeling with his left foot (90th + 2).
