Air traffic controllers go on strike at Belgium's Charleroi Airport

Air traffic controllers working at Belgium's Charleroi Airport will go on strike as of September 16 due to the failure to reach an agreement between management and unions on night shift wages. Controllers will stop work every day between 22.00 and 08.00 until the morning of October 10.

NIGHT SHIFT BONUS DISPUTE BROUGHT A STRIKE

According to reports in the Belgian press, negotiations between air traffic company Skeyes management and union representatives regarding night shift bonuses were inconclusive.

Thereupon, air traffic controllers at Charleroi Airport decided to go on strike starting from 22:00 on Wednesday, September 16.

As part of the action, controllers will stop work between 22.00 and 08.00 every day until the morning of October 10.

Union representatives are demanding that controllers in Charleroi be given the same bonus as employees in other units that work night shifts.

Skeyes management, however, does not accept the controllers' request to increase the night shift bonus to 160 percent of the current amount.

THE FACE OF THE FLIGHTS IS NOT CLEAR YET

In the statement made by Charleroi Airport, it was stated that the duration of the actions and the fact that they will be repeated every night will put heavy pressure on the operation of the airport.

In the statement, it was noted that the exact impact of the strike on flights has not yet been determined and airline companies will inform passengers directly.

Passengers were urged to check the status of their flights with the relevant airline company before going to the airport.
