NEW Party Zonguldak Deputy Deniz Yavuzyılmaz announced that a decision was made against Türkiye in the panel proceedings at the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the additional taxes applied to automobiles of Chinese origin. Claiming that the annual cost of the decision will be at least 100 million dollars, Yavuzyılmaz called on the Ministry of Commerce to submit an appeal until September 26.
NEW Party Zonguldak Deputy Deniz Yavuzyılmaz stated that Turkey was found largely unfair in the panel trial conducted as a result of China's application to the World Trade Organization due to the additional taxes applied to electric and some hybrid cars imported from China.
In his statement on his social media account, Yavuzyılmaz used the following statements:
"AKP lost the 'Chinese automobiles' case at the World Trade Organization! Despite the AKP providing a huge tax advantage to the Chinese-based automobile company BYD under the name of investment incentive, we have uncovered a new disgrace after the scandal that the company has not invested in Turkey to date! This time, due to the additional taxes applied to other Chinese automobile companies other than BYD; the panel trial initiated upon the complaint filed by China to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, Ministry of Commerce According to the 122-page Panel Decision, it was ruled that most of the additional tax practices of the Ministry of Commerce were against international trade rules.
'FILE AN APPEAL ASAP'
Result: according to our calculations; The cost of the case to Turkey will be at least 100 million dollars annually! 4 billion 486 million lira annually at the current exchange rate! China will tell Turkey, "Either you pay for my damage immediately or I will take a commercial retaliation of this amount." I am calling out to the Minister of Trade, Ömer Bolat! According to the outcome of the World Trade Organization (WTO) panel trial; Regarding exceeding the tax limit on electric vehicles and certain hybrid vehicles; China was found right. It was determined that Turkey exceeded the tax limits within the scope of WTO. Regarding discriminatory treatment against China regarding electric vehicles and certain hybrid vehicles; China was found right. It was determined that AKP treated China discriminatory (more negatively than other countries) in these vehicles. Regarding the protection of human, animal and plant life and health; AKP's defense was rejected. AKP could not prove that additional taxes were necessary for this purpose. A DISCRIMINATION ASSESSMENT WAS MADE
Imposing additional conditions such as service, authorized representative, call center and battery on electric and extended-range hybrid vehicles coming from China was considered discriminatory. Regarding China's other DUBS claims; The panel did not make China's other claims the subject of this panel. Regarding the exemption of countries with which Turkey has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) from additional taxes; China was largely found wrong. WTO rules found it appropriate to exempt vehicles coming from countries with an FTA, except Venezuela, from additional taxes. For Venezuela, China was found right. Regarding additional taxes on internal combustion (gasoline) vehicles; China has not been able to prove that these duties violate WTO rules. Regarding the additional taxes imposed on some hybrid vehicles outside of certain 34 tariff positions; China's claims were not accepted. Result: The panel requested that Turkey's measures found to be in violation be brought into compliance with WTO rules."
