Bologna and Florence propose joint initiatives against gender violence after the femicide of Lorena Isceri

BOLOGNA – The father of Lorena Isceri, kidnapped and thrown from an overpass in the A1 by her ex-partner Federico Vella, asked "politics to be united, to work in schools, to strengthen anti-violence centers and the tools to prevent violence. I believe that this appeal cannot go unheard". The mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore makes Franco Isceri's words his own - "Make sure it doesn't happen again" - and announces that together with the citizen Sara Funaro he has "decided to propose a joint initiative to fellow metropolitan mayors in the coming weeks and to bring together the Anci coordination".

The two cities, Bologna and Florence, "are linked by a collaboration agreement and like other cities they support anti-violence centres, initiatives in schools, educational courses on affectivity and awareness in relationships, recovery homes for men who have committed violence. We want to make these experiences available to the country and build new initiatives together with our colleagues. Because in the face of a femicide it is no longer enough to count the victims, be indignant and then return to normality".

Lepore recalls that since the beginning of 2026 "there have already been 34 women killed. Behind every number there is a person, a family, a community. And so we must listen to Franco's words and make his request a political responsibility: unity, prevention, education and concrete tools to stop violence"
