Collapse of an attic in a building under renovation in Rome, four people unharmed

An attic collapsed inside a building undergoing renovation in via Cola di Rienzo, in Rome. At the moment there are no people involved. Two fire brigade teams and a ladder truck attended the scene from around 10.30am. Search and safety operations for the building are still underway. The firefighters also intervened with the specialized groups Usar (Urban Search and Rescue) and Dog Watchers. The State Police and 118 personnel were also on site.

No injuries were reported following the collapse of the attic of a shop in Rome. There were only four people inside, scared but unharmed. The collapse of the attic of the premises, a clothing store, appears to have been caused by the partial collapse of the floor of a wing of the Hotel dei Consoli, on the first floor of the building. The hotel has in fact been undergoing extraordinary maintenance work since mid-July.

As explained by the firefighters, the collapse of the hotel floor caused the collapse of the attic of the room on the ground floor, where four people, two employees and two customers were at that moment. "It is probable that the stacked material overloaded the attics, it cannot be ruled out", explained the firefighters. According to what we learn, the four people were in a different wing from the one affected by the collapse and for this reason they managed to save themselves. After the inspection by the technicians, as far as we know, the seizure of the entire building will be ordered.
