Fire in an apartment building in Lörrach: Several people rescued, extensive property damage

Several people were rescued from the building during a fire in an apartment building in Lörrach in the evening. Five residents were taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to the fire department. According to initial estimates, there was high six-figure material damage.

According to police, the fire was reported at 7:30 p.m. and was extinguished around 8:15 p.m. The volunteer fire department was on site with numerous emergency services and quickly got the fire under control.

When the fire department arrived, ten people were in acute distress at the windows, said the head of the Lörrach fire department, Michael Ortlieb. They were rescued with two turntable ladders.

According to police, the apartments in two neighboring houses were evacuated because of the heavy smoke. The city of Lörrach is organizing temporary accommodation for the residents of the burnt property whose apartments are no longer habitable. Several roads were closed during the operation.
