Fabian murder trial: defendant entangled in contradictions

In the Fabian murder trial, the defendant made contradictory statements about the day of the crime before the Rostock regional court. On the afternoon of October 10, 2025, she met a friend at the lake in the forest near which the body of the child from Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was found, she said.

In the morning she drove from the horse stable to Güstrow because her grandparents had sent her to the small town to collect money for her from the bank. When she got there, she noticed that she had left her wallet in the tack room, she said. She was upset and wanted to drive into the forest with her dog. That's where she met her boyfriend.

She drove from the lake to the after-school care center in the afternoon to pick up her son and then go shopping with him. She didn't make a stopover - not even at home, she said when asked several times. When judge Holger Schütt pointed out to the 30-year-old that she had had the wallet with her at the checkout in the supermarket, she admitted that she had probably picked up the wallet during a stopover at home. She stated that she could not immediately remember every detail.

The defendant denies the crime

According to the prosecution, the woman lured the eight-year-old from his apartment in Güstrow in October and then stabbed him to death at a pond near Klein Upahl, about 15 kilometers south of the small town, and then set the body on fire. The motive is said to be related to the defendant's relationship with Fabian's father and the temporary end of this relationship. The defendant denies involvement in the crime.

Public interest in the process is huge. People waited in a long line in front of the regional court in Rostock to attend the hearing. The first spectators lined up shortly after 2 a.m.
