Brandenburg is recruiting young police officers from Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt

After the elections, Brandenburg's Interior Minister Jan Redmann is recruiting young police officers from Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt. The CDU politician said on the ministry's Instagram channel: "You come from Berlin or Saxony-Anhalt, want to become a police officer and are you currently worried about the political future in your home country? Then take a look at Brandenburg.”

GdP: Other countries are making poaching offers

A few days ago, Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Manuel Hagel (CDU) also offered police officers from the capital to move to the southwest after the Left's election victory in Berlin. The police union (GdP) spoke of poaching offers from other federal states and is concerned about the consequences for internal security in Berlin.

In its election program, the Left announced that it wanted to stop any further “upgrading” of the police in Berlin and redistribute the resources. The funds released should therefore flow, among other things, into greater support for street social work.

Brandenburg is looking for more police personnel

The Interior Ministry in Potsdam wrote on Instagram: “Some question the police. We're making the police even better!" Redmann pointed out that police officers can apply until December 31st for recruitment in April 2027.

Brandenburg's state government would like to increase police personnel. According to the Interior Ministry, the state police are to be expanded to 9,000 positions. Brandenburg is looking for 440 candidates for police service every year.

GdP: Capital city police officers are in demand

The Berlin GdP state chairman Stephan Weh said: "Our colleagues do not live on the moon, they are very aware of the offensive offers from other federal states and are taking a close look at the direction in which things are going here." Capital police officers are sought after because of their excellent training as well as their extensive operational experience and resilience.

“The political uncertainty after the elections is fueling the plan of other ministries to be able to fill their positions here with Berliners and thus solve the widespread concerns about young talent in their police departments,” said Weh. The GdP demanded a clear commitment from possible government parties to the Berlin police. The Left, the Greens and the SPD want to start talks this Thursday about a possible government formation.
