Brandenburg's Sports Minister Hoffmann congratulates Munich on its Olympic bid

Brandenburg's Sports Minister Gordon Hoffmann is pleased about the German application despite Berlin's withdrawn Olympic bid. “I warmly congratulate Munich on being awarded the contract by the German Olympic Sports Confederation,” wrote the CDU politician on Instagram. “This will bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Germany.”

Germany is entering the international race with Munich as a candidate to host the 2036, 2040 or 2044 Olympics. The Bavarian capital won the vote at the DOSB general meeting against Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr. Berlin withdrew its application two days before the election.

The capital performed worse in the evaluation than the competition and the Olympic supporters in the Senate were voted out in the House of Representatives election. Berlin wanted to apply for the event in 2036, 2040 or 2044 with the “Berlin+” concept together with Brandenburg, Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
