Brandon McNulty crowned world champion in Montreal

Legs and guts. The world championships in Montreal will always be remembered. For the scenario, the test. The suspense. The circuit, its three bumps to swallow without taking a breath, the repetition of the efforts, the frenzied pace delivered an electric race whose intensity never diminished. The French team maneuvering 160 km from the finish, before paying the price for its repeated efforts and letting Paul Seixas fend for himself, the Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel with a violent attack 88 km from the finish were valiant leaders, like the Mexican Isaac Del Toro in a race that was difficult to read, impossible to control but the last word went to Brandon McNulty.

Paul Seixas was able to show composure and endurance but, at the end of his strength, eaten away by cramps, the Lyonnais had to settle for 15th place at the end of a tiring, trying day. The American Brandon McNulty (28 years old, professional since 2015) was able to take advantage of the law of numbers and benefit from the valuable work of his compatriots Quinn Simmons and Matteo Jorgenson. McNulty attacked with 34 km to go. Before letting his riding qualities speak for themselves (one week after his 4th place during the Worlds time trial).

McNulty, teammate of Tadej Pogacar within the dominant UAE Team Emirates, capable of shining from time to time (winner of the Grand Prix de Montréal, the CRO Race and the Tour of Luxembourg in 2025), a rider of duty, a teammate who knew how to aim just to win the race of a lifetime. He beat the Australian Michael Matthews (13'') and Mathieu Van der Poel. Brandon McNulty becomes the third American crowned world champion after Greg LeMond (1983, 1989) and Lance Armstrong (1993).
