Brazil beats Venezuela 3-0 in the debut of the South American women's volleyball tournament

The women's volleyball team debuted with a quiet victory in the South American Championship, played at Maracanãzinho, in Rio de Janeiro. This Tuesday (8), the Brazilians beat Venezuela by 3 sets to 0, with splits of 25/14, 25/13 and 25/19.

The competition brings together six countries, who play against each other over five rounds. In addition to Brazil and Venezuela, the teams from Peru, Argentina, Colombia and Chile are in contention. The team that scores the most points, in addition to the title, guarantees a place at the Los Angeles Olympics (United States), in 2028.

Each triumph is worth three points, except those defined in the fifth set (tie-break). In this case, the winning country scores two points and the losing country scores one point.

The opposite Ana Cristina, with 12 points, was Brazil's highlight in the confrontation. Ten different athletes scored for the team led by José Roberto Guimarães. On the Venezuelan side, central Alejandra Arguelo was the main player, with eight points.

This Tuesday's match also marked the return of captain Gabi. The winger was left out of the Nations League - an annual competition that brings together the 18 best teams in the world - to recover from an injury to his lower back. She scored six points in the game, five from attack and one from blocking.

Brazil returns to the court this Wednesday (9), at 8 pm (Brasília time), to face Peru. On Thursday (10), at the same time, the duel will be against Colombia. On Saturday (12), the Brazilians face Chile at 1:30 pm. The campaign at Maracanãzinho comes to an end on Sunday (13), at 12pm, against Argentina.

The Brazilian team is the biggest champion of the South American Championship, with 23 titles, the last 15 of which are consecutive. The second country with the most achievements is Peru, with 12.
