The Rio de Janeiro Police charged 13 people with the beating death of cyclist Cláudio Rafael Landeiro, in Copacabana.

Sixty-three blows. Kicks. Failure to provide assistance. The police analyzed 12 hours of security camera footage that recorded the entire ritual of brutality. The death of Cláudio Rafael Landeiro, aged 37, was caused by internal bleeding, injuries to the spleen, kidney and traumatic brain injury.

"The reason for this totally futile, banal crime was due to a suspicion that he had stolen that bicycle. They decided to investigate him and sentence him to death there in Copacabana", says police chief Angelo Lages.

The investigation was concluded and the responsible delegate indicted 13 people. The case now goes to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which must file a complaint and send it to the courts for the trial of those involved.

Five men who attacked Rafael were indicted for triple homicide: David Santos Machado, the security guard who beat the victim with a stick; delivery men Felipe Eduardo dos Santos and Ailton José da Silva, who threw punches and kicks; another security guard, Jorge Luiz Ricardo Dias, who also participated in the attacks. The four are arrested. Three have already confessed to participating in the crime. And also Wellington Luiz Santos Souza, who kicks Rafael in the head, and is on the run.

The other eight people were indicted for crimes such as failing to provide assistance, causing bodily harm, hiring irregular security guards and illegally exercising their profession.
