Truck accidents on Rodovia dos Bandeirantes increase by 92.7% in 2026

The number of accidents involving trucks on Rodovia dos Bandeirantes (SP-348) increased by 92.7% this year compared to 2025, according to the São Paulo State Transport Agency (Artesp). The data considers the period from January 1st to September 6th.

According to the survey, there were 212 cases on the road in 2026, an average of six per week. Last year there were 110 incidents.

Two accidents occurred this Tuesday (8). One of them involved a truck, a bus and a car, in Campinas (SP), and left five minor injuries (see the cases below).

In a statement, Motiva Autoban, the concessionaire responsible for the highway, said that "it has safety as a priority in its operations and works daily to save lives, through safe, well-signposted highways and efficient service provision to customers."

According to the company, in addition to investments in infrastructure, monitoring and service, awareness campaigns are carried out.

"Among the reinforced guidelines for drivers are not using a cell phone while driving, always wearing a seat belt, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front and respecting speed limits", he highlighted.

The concessionaire also reinforced the importance of combining quality infrastructure, operational actions and user awareness to create increasingly safer traffic.

Just this Tuesday, Bandeirantes recorded two accidents. In the morning, a truck, a bus and a car blocked traffic on the highway in Campinas. Five people were injured: two were in the truck, two in the bus and one in the car.

According to the Military Highway Police, the car hit the metal protection of the road and hit the bus. The tanker, which was empty, tried to divert into the median and overturned. The force of the impact caused the car's engine to fly out of the vehicle.

Also in the morning, a truck loaded with wooden pallets fell onto a car, in Hortolândia (SP). No one is hurt.

The accident occurred around 8 am, at km 105 of the road towards Capital. It was necessary to completely block the runway, as well as the access loop to Monte Mor (SP), to carry out the rescue.

Urban mobility specialist Luiz Vicente de Mello explained that the risk of heavy vehicles increases with intense traffic and speed.

"That's why it's so important to pay extra attention when driving on the highway, because it's also related to speed. When you increase speed, the reaction time is shorter and the risk increases," he said.

On the roads, truck driver Denis Carvalho pointed to cell phone use as the cause of most crashes. “Both for those who work with trucks and those who work with cars,” he said.

Driver Paulo Antunes warned of tiredness. "Sleep kills a lot of people. Sometimes, because of sleep, you think it's just a little blink, man, it takes 10, 20 seconds and it's gone", he reported.

The struggle for space on the lanes was also cited as an aggravating factor by drivers like Everton Souza, who reflected on the rush in traffic.

"Whether we lose a minute of our lives, or 10 seconds, or 20 seconds here in traffic, it won't make any difference to our destiny", he concluded.
