Watchman dies after being hit by a car in Teresina; driver fled the scene

A security camera recorded the moment when guard Manoel Borges Neto, 58 years old, was run over by a car on Avenida Prefeito Hugo Bastos, Vale Quem Tem neighborhood, in the East Zone of Teresina. The victim was hit while cleaning in front of the association where he worked and died.

The case happened on Monday (7). The suspect was identified by police after locating the vehicle involved in the accident hours later. But it had not been located until the last update of this report.

In the images, Manoel appears cleaning the area in front of where he worked when he is hit by the car. The force of the collision throws him to the ground. The vehicle continues for a few meters and then stops.

The passenger gets off first and approaches the victim. Then, the driver also gets out of the car and observes the scene. When other people start to approach, the two get back into the vehicle and leave the place.

Driver has been identified

According to Colonel Pitombeira, commander of the Metropolitan Police Command (CPM), the car was found in a garage in the Vale Quem Tem neighborhood, the same neighborhood where the collision occurred. During the search, a man who introduced himself as the driver's father informed the police that his son was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect. According to the corporation, family members were instructed to inform him that he must report to the police station.

"The police's action was to identify the vehicle, the owner of the vehicle and take both the vehicle and owner to the Flagrantes Center. It was the father who declared that it was his son who was riding in the car. But that he had escaped, with an unknown destination and that he would later appear with a lawyer", detailed Colonel Pitombeira.

The car allegedly used in the collision was seized and taken to the Teresina Police Station. The vehicle must undergo forensic examination and remain available for investigation.

The case is investigated by the Civil Police.
