Brazilian man arrested in Thailand for drug trafficking returns to country after receiving royal pardon

Jordi Vilsinski Beffa, 28 years old, was released and returned to Brazil this Wednesday (30).

A resident of Apucarana, in the North of Paraná, he had been imprisoned in Thailand for four years for international drug trafficking.

In 2022, he was arrested with two other Brazilians at Bangkok airport, transporting cocaine. In total, 15.5 kilos of drugs were seized from the three.

Jordi was sentenced to seven years in prison in the Asian country, under a closed regime. After serving approximately three years of his sentence, in September 2025, the King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn, granted him a royal pardon.

Lawyer Petrônio Cardoso, who has represented the man from Paraná since his arrest, confirmed his freedom in a statement released this Wednesday and said he received the news with "relief and satisfaction". The statement also states that the boy and his family will not comment at this time.

"After more than four and a half years of deprivation of liberty and separation, this is a period reserved exclusively for reception and family intimacy", says the note.

Remember the case

Jordi and two other Brazilians were arrested at Bangkok airport, Thailand, on February 14, 2022. According to Thai authorities, the man from Paraná was carrying 6.5 kilos of cocaine hidden in two suitcases.

The approach took place after airport staff became suspicious of items shown on the x-ray. First, customs officials searched three suitcases belonging to a 27-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman who left Curitiba. In them, they found nine kilos of cocaine in a hidden compartment.

Hours later, authorities arrested Jordi, who had arrived on another flight.

The man from Paraná had worked as a machine operator in a clothing and mask factory in Apucarana for three years. He resigned from the place three days before the trip.

At the time, Jordi announced that he had been detained through audio sent to friends. In one of the messages, he asked people to take care of his family if he can't "come back".

In May of the same year, the Federal Police (PF) arrested the woman suspected of enticing the three Brazilians.

Thailand is one of the countries where drug trafficking can be punished with the death penalty.
