Brics states demand restraint in the Iran war

At their summit in New Delhi, India, the eleven Brics states called for “maximum restraint” in the Iran war. "We express our deep concern at the continued escalation of tensions in the Middle East/West Asia," it said in a final statement.

The states called for “measures to be avoided that could further aggravate the situation.” The two-day summit was attended, among others, by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his counterparts from Iran and China, Massoud Peseschkian and Xi Jinping.

The Brics Group was founded in 2009 to give emerging markets more international weight. The founding states were Brazil, Russia, India and China, and South Africa joined the following year. Iran, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, among others, were later added.
