NHK announces cause of problem where commercial broadcasting BS6 channel was not displayed Contains old channel information

On the 14th, NHK announced that the problem in which 6 channels of commercial broadcasting stations such as BS TV Tokyo and BS10 were not displayed on some TVs from August 9th to 11th was due to old channel information being included in the signal data sent out by the broadcaster.

BS Digital sends signal data including channel information including other stations via broadcast waves. Because it contained old channel information, some receiver models were unable to properly select the target BS channel.

The target channels are BS TV Tokyo, BS10, BS10 Premium, BS Animax, Japanese movie channel, and Disney Channel. Some models, mainly Sharp TVs, were unable to tune in from around 5 a.m. on the 9th to around 7:45 p.m. on the 11th.

NHK deleted old channel information around 7:45 p.m. on the 11th. Currently, a signal containing normal channel information is being broadcast. If you are still unable to select a channel, you will need to perform operations such as rescanning the channels, and we ask that you contact the manufacturer for instructions on how to do so.

NHK apologized to viewers and broadcasters. ``From now on, we will check channel information more thoroughly and strive to prevent recurrence.''
