Searches for woman continue after storm and deaths in RS

The search continues for Eliane Nunes da Silva, 43 years old, who disappeared after the car she was driving was swept away by the current during the storm in Caxias do Sul, in Serra Gaúcha. The accident happened on Monday (21), in Rio São Marcos, Parada Cristal neighborhood.

Eliane's children, teenager Joziane da Silva Rodrigues, aged 13, and boy Juliano César da Silva Rodrigues, aged 4, were also in the vehicle and were found lifeless in the water. The children's stepfather, Ricardo Leodoro, was in the passenger seat and managed to escape through the window.

The work of the Rio Grande do Sul Military Fire Department (CBMRS) reaches its fourth uninterrupted day. The teams have already covered six kilometers from the point where the vehicle was hit by the force of the water. The operation includes land and water searches, in addition to the use of drones and sniffer dogs.

Firefighters have already found the victim's shoes and a lanyard with an urban transport card identified with Eliane's name.

According to the corporation, the main objective of the current phase of the operation is to check points on the banks of the river where there is an accumulation of vegetation and materials transported by the flood. The water level has dropped and, so far, it has not been necessary to employ divers from the Search and Rescue Battalion.

Brothers are veiled

The brothers are buried in the Nossa Senhora das Dores Church. The burial is scheduled for 4pm this Thursday (24th) at the Zona Lise Cemetery in Fazenda Souza, in Caxias do Sul.

Also in Caxias do Sul, in Serra Gaúcha, the body of a 46-year-old man was found who was carried away by the current while trying to unblock a pipe. He was identified as Édson Luís da Silva, aged 46.

According to the Military Fire Department, the body was located around 9:30 am approximately 300 meters inside a storm drain.

In Pelotas, in the south of Rio Grande do Sul, a 70-year-old man died after being hit by wires lying in the street. According to the police report, he was driving a motorcycle when he fell with his hands on his neck. He was identified as Jerson Dias Pereira.

According to residents, the wires that were on the road fell due to the force of the wind from the storm that hit the region in the early hours of the morning. The accident happened around 6:30 am this Monday (21). He was rescued by residents, but died before the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) ambulance arrived at the scene.
