A resident of Port Moresby spoke about violence and danger in the capital of Papua New Guinea

A Reddit user with the nickname Mundane-Society-1281 spoke about life in one of the “worst cities” in the Pacific region. The girl was born and raised in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea.

“The worst thing here is the abuse of women and children. It is very sad to know that almost everyone I know has been a victim of some form of violence, including myself. Propaganda of the “male subculture” is very common here. Sometimes I just want to go live somewhere else, but sometimes I can’t imagine living anywhere other than here,” the author wrote.

She added that Port Moresby could be quite a dangerous city for tourists, suggesting that visitors to the country choose to visit a province where the crime rate is lower and nature is more beautiful.

“Port Moresby and other major cities are not very safe due to poverty and the high cost of living in metropolitan areas. There is a lot of petty crime here, as well as violence and harassment against women. I rarely leave the house and am never alone,” the girl concluded.
