Russia and Iran discussed cooperation in the energy sector

Russia and Iran discussed cooperation between the countries in the energy sector, as well as the prospects for its development, the Russian Ministry of Energy reported.

Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev held a meeting with the co-chairman of the Russian-Iranian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad.

“The current state and prospects of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the energy sector, which is one of the key areas of bilateral economic cooperation, were considered,” the Russian ministry said in a statement.

It is clarified that during the meeting, topical issues of the functioning of the Bushehr nuclear power plant were also discussed. Special attention was paid to the progress in implementing agreements in the field of education and the supply of agricultural resources, reached earlier within the framework of the IPC meeting, which took place in February of this year in Tehran.

In addition, as the Russian Ministry of Energy emphasized, the meeting discussed the formation of a substantive agenda and other issues of the Iranian side’s participation in the Russian Energy Week (REW) and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), which will be held in Moscow on October 14-16 and October 25-27, respectively.
