Seoul City promotes ‘Seoul Light Up’ project to create nighttime attractions by installing landscape lighting under bridges and overpasses

The city of Seoul announced on the 27th that it will promote the 'Seoul Light Up' project, which will install landscape lighting under urban infrastructure such as bridges and overpasses to create nighttime attractions.

The idea is to transform shady spaces into bright and safe spaces, while also allowing citizens to enjoy new scenery containing content such as local history and nature during their evening leisure.

As part of the Seoul Light Up Project, the city improved the landscape lighting at Dumo Bridge near Oksu Station last month.

The old lighting in the 1km section between the northern end of Hannam Bridge and Seongsu JC was repaired, and lighting was installed with the concept of golden sand inspired by 'Dumofo' and 'Jeojado' that disappeared during the past Han River development process.

Last April, the landscape lighting was replaced under the overpass on the northern main road near Wolgok Station.

Taking inspiration from the name ‘Wolgok’ and the story that the surrounding terrain resembles a half moon, a new nighttime landscape was created with the concept of ‘a street touched by moonlight.’

In October, we plan to complete the improvement of landscape lighting on the inner ring road around Jongam Intersection and Nowon Bridge over Jungnangcheon Stream.

In the Jongam intersection area, the resonance and waves that spread when a bell is rung, inspired by the place names, are expressed through light, and at Nowon Bridge, the waterway of Jungnangcheon Stream and reeds swaying in the wind are expressed with light.

Choi Jin-seok, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Disaster and Safety Office, said, "We will create a new nighttime scenery of Seoul by incorporating local stories into the urban infrastructure encountered in daily life. We will continue to improve the nighttime scenery of major bridges and overpasses so that citizens can walk and stay safely at night and enjoy the charms of Seoul."
