US Air Force Secretary Troy Meink previously said that the United States has sufficient orbital weapons to protect its troops.

"The announcement of U.S. capabilities to control outer space directly in orbit could prompt Russia and China to accelerate the development of their own military capabilities in space and ground-based systems capable of destroying orbiting satellites. All of these actions and responses threaten the safe operation of orbital systems on which countries around the world depend," Kimball said.

The expert called on all interested parties for restraint and constructive dialogue.

“Currently, the five leading nuclear powers are not actively discussing mutual concerns about the deployment of weapons in space, are not discussing strategies to reduce nuclear risks, and are not considering measures to stop and reverse the process of building up nuclear weapons,” the expert said.

In his opinion, in order to prevent an extremely dangerous arms race, the United States must immediately begin bilateral arms control negotiations with Russia, as well as bilateral negotiations with China.

Earlier, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said that space in the coming centuries will remain the main battlefield for the future of the world, while the American department advocates “orbital and American dominance.”
