A fatal car accident occurred yesterday at the intersection of Heping Road and Fujian Street in Hualien City! After the 55-year-old taxi driver surnamed Zeng got off the passengers at the intersection, he started from the side of the road and was about to turn around to continue picking up the passengers. He did not pay attention to the traffic behind him and accidentally hit a motorcycle riding a 72-year-old woman surnamed Lai who was going straight along Heping Road. Mrs. Lai's car fell to the ground and was run over by the taxi wheel. He lost his heartbeat and breathing on the spot. The ambulance personnel immediately implemented CPR rescue after being reported to the scene, and rushed to Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital for emergency treatment. However, it was delayed until 11 o'clock that night, and he still died of his injuries. The detailed cause of the accident still needs to be further investigated by the police.

Police investigation revealed that at around 10 a.m. on the 14th, the driver surnamed Zeng drove a business taxi from the side of Heping Road in Hualien City. He was about to turn back to the east-west lane to continue operating and carry passengers. He was suspected of not paying attention to the traffic behind him. He accidentally hit an old woman surnamed Lai who was riding a motorcycle going straight from west to east along Heping Road. Lai was unable to dodge. After the taxi fell to the ground, she was run over by the taxi wheels and lost her heartbeat and breathing on the spot. After the Hualien County Fire Department received the report, ambulance personnel rushed to the scene and found that Lai had no heartbeat and breathing. They immediately implemented CPR rescue and rushed to Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital for rescue. However, due to excessive injuries, the rescue was delayed until 11 o'clock that night, and the hospital still declared her dead.

The police pointed out that after the accident, the driver surnamed Zeng was not injured. The police conducted a sobriety test on him on the spot and found that his sobriety test value was 0. He was not driving under the influence and had a qualified driver's license. The police have reviewed surveillance cameras around the intersection of Heping Road and Fujian Street, as well as taxi driving recorders for comparison. The detailed cause of the accident and the attribution of responsibility will be clarified by further police investigation.
