Dog Dora, 9 months old, is rescued after being attacked with concrete at UFMA

A 9-month-old animal was rescued by volunteers and arrived at the clinic with difficulty supporting its hind legs.

The dog Dora, 9 months old, is hospitalized in São Luís after being attacked with concrete at UFMA, last Tuesday (1).

A woman taking a walk would have hit the dog. An outsourced employee witnessed the attack, but the animal did not receive immediate care.

The rescue took place at 8pm by a volunteer. According to the veterinarian, Dora has difficulty moving around due to stitches, but is progressing well.

A nine-month-old dog, named Dora, has been hospitalized for four days in a veterinary clinic after being attacked on the campus of the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), in São Luís. The case happened last Tuesday night (1).

According to information released on social media by the Animal Protection Project on the UFMA campus, a woman who was walking through the area had hit Dora with a piece of concrete (See the video above).

According to the publication, the attack was witnessed by an employee of an outsourced company at the university.

The case was reported to the employee's supervisor, but Dora did not receive assistance at that time and the woman identified as responsible for the attack was not immediately approached by surveillance.

At around 8pm, the dog was rescued by a member of the UFMA Protective Project and taken to veterinary care.

In an interview with TV Mirante, project volunteer Poliana said that she found Dora in a serious situation

“When I arrived at the scene, I really saw that the situation was extremely violent, that the animal had suffered,” he said.

Also in an interview with TV Mirante, veterinarian Ana Paula Santos reported that the dog arrived at the clinic with difficulty supporting her limbs, especially her hind legs.

According to the veterinarian, Dora still has difficulty moving due to the stitches in the affected region, but she is progressing well.

What UFMA says

In a note sent to TV Mirante, the Federal University of Maranhão reported that it took images from security cameras and registered a police report on the case (Check the note in full below).

"The Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) informs that it became aware of the incident involving an animal on its premises and that it has already arranged for the collection of all video surveillance images from the location.

The Institution emphasizes that all applicable measures are being strictly adopted. This includes recording a police report and forwarding images and reports to the competent authorities for proper investigation.

It also highlights the commitment and sensitivity of the rectory and the entire academic community towards the animal cause, ensuring, on an ongoing basis, the action and promotion of an environment of protection and respect, including through specific projects aimed at animal welfare.

UFMA repudiates any act of violence and reiterates that the practice of mistreating and abandoning animals is a crime."
