ATM is the target of a criminal explosion in João Pessoa

An ATM located in the Rangel neighborhood, in João Pessoa, was the target of an attempted explosion at around 3am this Monday (26). According to police, four armed men are suspected of participating in the action.

Despite the use of explosives, the compartment where the money was kept was not opened. The information was confirmed by forensics, which collected materials that could help identify those responsible.

According to delegate Jacyendy Prates, residents of the region heard three explosions and the police received information about the presence of the suspects through the Integrated Command and Control Center (CICC).

"We received via CICC that four individuals arrived at the location armed and tried to violate the ATM. I say 'tried' because, in a preliminary investigation, it was found that the ATM was not violated, but they placed explosives in the location", he stated.

The delegate explained that the Special Tactical Actions Group (Gate) was activated to guarantee safety during the forensic work. He also informed that he will request images from the local cameras to verify who participated in the action.

Expert Mariana Haddad confirmed that the explosion caused damage to the internal part of the ATM, but did not allow access to the money.

"There was no violation of the contents of the ATM. The explosive was unable to open and access the place where the money was kept. There was only damage to the interior", he explained.

During the work, the team collected ballistic elements, materials used in the manufacture of the explosive device and possible genetic traces in the areas touched by the suspects.

The material collected may contribute to the investigation, which seeks to identify those involved in the attempted breach of the ATM. Until the last update of this report, there was no record of arrests related to the incident.
