Garbage collection truck gets stuck in hole after asphalt sinks in Feira de Santana

A garbage collection truck was stuck in a hole after the asphalt gave way while the vehicle was passing on Rua Água Verde, in the Parque Ipê neighborhood, in Feira de Santana, the second largest city in Bahia. The situation happened this Friday (11).

Images taken by residents show part of the truck inside the hole opened in the asphalt. It was necessary to use a backhoe to remove the vehicle from the scene.

The team of street cleaners was collecting garbage on the street when the asphalt gave way. After the truck was removed, the road was marked and closed.

According to residents, a section of the street began to show signs of sinking last Friday (4). They stated that they tried to contact the city hall to request the repair, but were unable to receive assistance.

According to the Feira de Santana Infrastructure Secretariat, teams were sent to the location after the incident to remove the vehicle, signal the area and assess the damage.

According to the Secretary of Infrastructure, the region has a drainage network installed in the 1990s. According to him, the structure is old and has already presented problems that required repairs previously.

This Friday, teams began work on site. The forecast is that, on Saturday (12), the area will be excavated to identify the extent of the damage and assess which parts of the network need to be replaced.

After the intervention on the drainage network, the section of the street must undergo paving restoration.
