Avante candidate Augusto Cury visits Assembly of God in São Paulo and proposes reforms in the STF

Avante's candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Augusto Cury, was this Thursday (3) at the headquarters of the Assembly of God church, in Belém, in São Paulo. He said he has been close to evangelicals for decades and said he was invited to the visit.

"I didn't come to ask for a vote, I came to ask for this nation to be pacified," Cury told the journalist after a closed-door meeting with the president pastor, José Wellington Bezerra da Costa, and other pastors of the Assembly.

Cury stated that the visit was "above candidacy" and said that church leaders read and apply his works. He is known for self-help and mental health books.

"Actually, I'm not trying to get closer. I've been close for decades," he said. According to Cury, issues such as the "importance of the family, freedom of expression, religious freedom" were discussed at the meeting.

The candidate highlighted the role of evangelical churches in welcoming homeless people and said that meeting with these institutions to address the issue is a campaign promise.

Cury stated that mental health treatment helps these people not return to the streets.

He again stated that he has "a capitalist mind and a social heart".

"My mind has the best of capitalism: meritocracy, family, entrepreneurship, freedom of expression, a leaner state. But my heart is social. I've listened to pain all my life. In fact, I also went through pain. Mom and Dad lived eight to one room. So, I didn't read about pain, I lived this pain that Lula proclaims so much."

The recent revelations about messages sent by Daniel Vorcaro to minister Alexandre de Moraes were also commented by Cury. He said "no one will be spared" in his eventual government.

"If Alexandre de Moraes owes it, he has to prove that he doesn't owe it and, if he owes it, he has to have the ultimate consequences. Because who is the boss of the Supreme Court ministers? The taxpayer is the boss", he said.

Cury stated that he would nominate two women for the next vacancies on the Court. According to him, he would choose names from careers linked to the Justice system, without party affiliation in the last 5 years and over 50 years of age.

He said he had already spoken to members of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) and the National Congress about creating eight-year terms for court ministers. Cury said he would present a draft in his first week of government.

Regarding the recent suspicion that his campaign had irregularly paid influencers, Cury denied it, said it was a spontaneous movement and stated that the campaign spent around R$50,000 on promotion, which he said was a low amount.

The candidate once again spoke about gender-based violence in the country. He said that women are the "gold of humanity" and defended the creation of a geotagged alert button. He also said that women pay 4% more interest than men.
