German businessman Vadim Rosenstein, who lost the election for president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

German businessman Vadim Rosenstein, who lost the election for president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) demanding a legal assessment of Timur Turlov’s admission to vote, he reported on his page on the social network X.

The elections took place on September 26 in Samarkand (Uzbekistan) at the FIDE General Assembly. In the second round, Turlov received 110 votes, Rosenstein - 85.

“I have submitted to CAS the case regarding the right of Mr. Timur Turlov to participate in elections. I am not asking the court to decide who to love, support or prefer. I am asking the court to answer a much simpler and more important question: do the rules of international chess apply equally to everyone? Now this question is more important than my candidacy and specific elections,” Rosenstein’s appeal says.

He also noted that he respects each federation that took part in the vote, regardless of who it voted for. “I received the support of 85 federations. I remain deeply grateful for their trust. But I also address in this letter those federations that did not vote for me. Because justice only makes sense when we are ready to defend it, even if it benefits those whom we did not support,” Rosenstein added, duplicating his appeal in Ukrainian.

Even before the elections, the German appealed to CAS with a demand to review the admission of Kazakh businessman Turlov to participate in the elections. He argued that the FIDE election commission did not consider the issue of applying restrictions to Turlov, in particular in connection with his Russian citizenship.
