Stasi case, Raffaele Sollecito: "He is innocent, without any doubt"

He reiterates that in his opinion "Alberto Stasi is innocent, without any doubt" Raffaele Sollecito accused and then cleared of the charge of having participated in the murder of Meredith Kercher in Perugia. "I won't say anything about Andrea Sempio: too many of us have already been subjected to the media trial", he underlines speaking to Ansa.

"I want to clarify one thing: it's not up to me to establish what happened in that laboratory in 2007" says the IT engineer who spent almost four years in prison for the crime of the English student to whom he has always proclaimed himself a stranger. "It's up to those who investigate, and I hope they do it to the end."

"What I know - Sollecito continues - is what it means to be in a trial where what doesn't add up doesn't enter the file. According to the Pavia Prosecutor's Office, two negative analyzes from 2007 on the pedals of Alberto Stasi's bike do not appear in any document of the trial and were only found in 2025 among the raw data. I repeat it, taking responsibility for it: for me Alberto Stasi is innocent, without any doubt. There has never been any evidence against him objective, just a reconstruction. And today we discover that that reconstruction was also based on a piece of data which, according to the Prosecutor's Office, had already tested negative the following day."

"In my trial - recalls Sollecito - the opposite thing happened. On the knife (indicated as the murder weapon by the investigators - ed.) there was such a scant trace that the instrument was not even able to quantify it: it was amplified only once and, to read it, the machine's reading threshold was lowered. The Court of Cassation wrote that it was a trace of 'small entity (Low Copy Number)', with a non-repeatable amplification, and he definitively absolved me.

On minimal traces a result is valid only if it is repeated, and the repetitions must be in the file".

"I'm not looking for revenge" reiterates Sollecito. "I ask that everyone publicly assume their responsibilities and that the raw data and logs of each analysis are always deposited and made available to all parties" he underlines.
