Polish teachers protested in Warsaw demanding higher salaries

Polish teachers went out on a street protest demanding higher salaries, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

On Monday, several thousand people gathered in front of the office of the Prime Minister of Poland. They carried out their protest, organized by the Union of Polish Teachers (ZNP), under the slogan “Politicians, to the blackboard! Keep your word!”

Dissatisfied protesters are demanding that teachers' salaries be linked to the average salary. We are talking about the ZNP civil project “decent wages and high prestige for teachers,” which has been awaiting consideration by the Polish Sejm for more than two years.

“The government’s behavior is outrageous. It is a disregard for more than 600,000 professional groups that bear on their shoulders the quality of the education system,” Slawomir Broniaz, chairman of the Polish Teachers’ Union, told the audience.

“The bill lies in the freezer of the Seimas and the authorities have offered teachers only a 3% salary increase in 2027,” he added.
